Annual Art Exhibtion

Well, its third term and that means that the school's annual art exhibition is coming up soon. Every year the teachers of both the junior learners (Grade 4 - 9) and the senior learners (Grade 10 -12) choose the best artwork to be displayed in a week long exhibition that is open to the public.

This year the opening night, which by invitation only, is on 21 September and the exhibition is being opened by Mr Keith van Winkel, who is the Director of the Arthur Cotton Center for Design and Technology at St Andrew's College. This year we are also doing something a little different. All the second project throughout the grades were centered around our environment and as artists and designers it is important to be aware of the effect that we have. Therefore this year one of the rooms of the exhibition is going to solely dedicated to environmental awareness - "The Green Room".

Please come and support the school, and all the wonderful work that the learners do.

Going once...going twice...SOLD! to the highest bidder.

Table decor

On 27th May, Carinus once again hosted the annual Banquet and Art Auction. The theme this year centered around "Green Cuisine" which was inspired by the class theme for this term of being eco-friendly. Going along with this theme the hanging flowers and most of the other decor was made with scrap paper, newspaper and magazines.

The staff incorporated the theme into the menu by serving an array of green foods which included Leg of Lamb served with Salsa Verde, as part of the main course, Pistachio Ice Cream and mint leaves dipped in chocolate as part of the dessert.

Apple Schnapps Cocktails

The auction included both artworks very kindly donated by local Eastern Cape artists as well as learners. This year we had the addition of a silent auction which was innovative way of buying art for those that are little less outspoken.

All-in-all it was a very successful evening and we have had a lot of positive feedback. The Carinus staff would like to thank all the artists that so willingly gave their artworks for the evening, and to thank the guests that participated with such enthusiasm.

Junior Silent Auction

Bathurst Show 2011

Every year, Carinus enters artworks done by the leaners into the Bathurt Show, which was held from 1 - 3 April. We, the staff, are always delighted when the leaners do well and this year was no exception. Two learners, both from PJ Olivier won the "Best show" prize for their category: Ruphael de Reuck (Grade 5) and Jasmine Kumm (Grade 8). From the Junior (Grade 4 - 9) section Carinus learners won 25 gold and 43 silver awards, whilst in the Senior (Grade 10-12) section Carinus learners won 16 gold and 26 silver awards.

We would like to thank all the learners that participated for all their hard work and encourage them to continue to enjoy their art.
